Regice is a Pokemon made entirely of Antarctic ice, resembling a large crystal. Its face is composed of a series of dots in a cross formation. It can cloak itself in freezing air as cold as −200° and can survive being immersed in molten lava without melting. It is said to have laid dormant within a glacier for thousands of years.
Upon Mega Evolving, Regice gains a large boost to the power of its special attacks, such as Ice Beam. Its body is more nimble and less bulky, allowing it to move and strike faster. It can levitate above the ground higher than perviously, enough to dodge ground-based attacks. Icy rings band the Pokemon's body, further enhancing its already great defenses. Six crystals hover directly behind its back and a pair of ice rings hover on its head, giving it an almost angelic appearance. It wields a great ice hammer that it channels its special attacks through. Mega Regice spins its hammer, charging it with energy, as it is about to unleash a powerful attack.
This Mega Evolution design went through a couple ideas before taking shape. At first, I wanted Regice to open up, revealing a thinner alien form within that uses the icy exterior as armour. Then I thought of having a central core where the braille dots make up its face, surrounded by ice shards and formed limbs. Then I thought of giving it a weapon and the current design was built from that idea.
Alien-type is a non-existant Pokemon type I've made up. It classifies Pokemon that are related to or said to come from space/other worlds, such as Clefairy, Lunatone, Beheeyem, Deoxys and more. Alien-type Pokemon are weak to Poison, Psychic and Fairy-type attacks while resisting Electric, Fighting, Ghost, Steel and Alien-type attacks.
